Mount Gambarogno is the real star of this scenic trek. But so is the lake, as a natural complement.
And you will reach the top of Gambarogno, elevation 1734 m, to enjoy unparalleled views of Ascona, Locarno, the Maggia Delta and the entire Lake Maggiore region.
On foot, the summit can be reached from Alpe di Neggia, which can be reached by car or public transport in approx. 40 minutes by taking the B352 line from 'Piazzogna, paese' towards 'Indemini, paese'.
Stop at the Alpe to taste their fresh yogurt or cheese. From there, tackle the scenic route to the summit - just over an hour's walk.
Almost at the summit, at an altitude of 1,723 m, you will find the famous Capanna Gambarögn, built in the early 1900s for military purposes and later transformed into a cozy refuge, with 10 beds and a restaurant serving mountain cuisine. It is a place of sustainability and support for local producers of bread, meat, cold cuts, milk, and cheese, produced and refined by artisans known by name.
Please note: Gambarögn Hut is open from Wednesday to Sunday and from May to November.
